The Community Haven is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was established in 2017. The area in which Community Haven resides is known as "Bushtown". According to a news article in 1887, Bushtown was the first black incorporated township in all of America.
In 2019, Community Haven acquired a 5-acre site at 815 North Hickory Street located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This building was the old location of the St. Francis Catholic School for African Americans, the former Tennessee Correctional Workhouse, and the former 28th Legislative District Community Development Corporation property which closed in 2012.
Since 2015, Community Haven has hosted a number of programs and support for negatively impacted communities with a goal to make our communities a decent and safe place to live. Chattanooga's poverty rate of 12.7% is only slightly higher than the 12.3% national rate. According to the 2021 Census Data, there are approximately 11,000 homes in the Bushtown Community with an average of 26.52% of these households living below poverty level. As such, our goal is to provide the community with a myriad of support, development, products and services.
The Community Patrol program provides car, foot and bike patrol that focuses on violence prevention. The program uses unarmed security personnel to patrol and train community volunteers in the Community Haven neighborhood.

Camp Haven provides a safe space where youth can develop skills that will carry into the future. Youth will experience adventure, academics and attitude building strategies.

This work readiness virtual series is designed to deliver eight Facilitator lead topics over the course of four weeks. Two topics will run each week for a duration of 60 minutes each topic. The topics will run every Tuesday and Thursday for the duration of the 2023 Summer Camp. This will yield three runs in cohorts of 10. Start date is Tuesday May 31st.

The Thrift Store is currently under renovations and opened with limited hours and provides affordable gently used clothes and household items.
